Robotics Students are Making a Difference on Med Access International Missions
Since 2022, inner-city high school robotics students from the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio have been designing and fabricating mechanical arms and hands for our amputee patients as part of their Hands Across Borders global community service initiative. Working in collaboration with these robotics students, Med Access International and the Great Lakes Science Center are changing lives in both directions by giving inner-city high school robotics students opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of child amputees overseas who cannot otherwise afford a prosthetic device.
The robotics students who volunteer on our missions also help our triage team to process patients, thereby gaining additional experience in the healthcare field. Bilingual robotics students also have opportunities to volunteer as interpreters for patients and doctors on our missions.
Med Access International and the Great Lakes Science Center’s robotics team began their collaboration in 2022 after top representatives of both organizations met through a Zoom meeting organized by the Rotary E-Club of World Peace, District 5330.
